Until I am able to upload more pictures, let me tell you more about my life, my neighborhood, and the lot.
Prague (Praha) is separated by districts. My school is in the first district and my neighborhood is in the second. They aren't too far away at all, about 15 minutes by Tram. My neighborhood is Vinohrady A beautiful neighborhood that is mainly owned by upper-middle class (hence the king-sized bed and the chandelier in my room).
Vinohrady is a central location to getting to places like Old Town Square, This Funny Looking Building , and the Crazy Iron Baby TV Tower.
Last night, Spencer and I went for a walk to get lost in the city. Mission accomplished and it took a while to find our way back to a Tram stop, but on the way we discovered the large Metronome overlooking Vltava River. I had seen it before in the daylight and from very far away, but when I was standing right in front of it all lit up, it was incredible. It replaced the huge Stalin statue that was destroyed in 1962. It's supposed to symbolize change, which is nice, but it's kind of awkwardly placed. Plus last night it wasn't moving, so Spencer and I thought that it meant the Russians were going to attack.
What I do like, is the Lennon wall. It's a big wall in Prague that is completely full of graffiti and is allowed to be used for expression. It started when John Lennon was shot and someone painted his face on this wall. The police covered it, and the artist just kept on repainting it, over and over again until the police gave up. Since then it has been used for art and expression, and you can still find the original John Lennon face if you look closely enough.
This weekend I am going to do the touristy thing. I have yet to actually discover Prague because I've been so busy with film. But this will be a good time to find out what this city is all about. I'll keep you posted!

Yay! New posts! Your film shoot looks so interesting. Do they provide you with costumes or do you all just have to make do with what you have? is your film digital? can you post it? i bet you were great as a dolled up coke head :)
ReplyDeleteI love all the pictures. The metronome is especially interesting - it really demonstrates the stoicism and determination of the czech people that you talked about in an earlier post. And, of course, the crazy iron babies are awesome. haha.
WOW Thank YOU for sharing, the pictures and most of all your story. What a fantastic chapter you are living in.
ReplyDeleteIt's all so surreal and dreamlike the way you describe the city. I have the curious sensation of watching you in your film as you go about your discoveries.
