I don't get to sit down on the Tram anymore.

Every morning, without fail, I try to find a seat on the Tram. And after 1 minute of resting my bones, I am hit on the shoulder (hit...not tapped) by an old woman who wants me to get my lazy butt up and let her sit down. Now, of course I have no problem with this and as soon as I see an elderly person get on the Tram, I am one of the first to stand up and offer them my seat. But even as I am in the process of standing up, they hit me on the shoulder just so that I know that they are getting my seat-as if the staring and speaking-um, yelling- nonsensical Czech wasn't enough.
The nerve.

On a better note, my weekend was fabulous. It was my friend Spencer's 21st birthday and we made sure it was amazing, even though "He's 21!!" means nothing here. We went to this 5 story club Saturday night where each floor has a different theme. The first floor is "American" where cheesey R&B blares through the speakers and grinding is encouraged. The second floor is house/techno music-- probably the most crowded floor with men in their 60's jumping around and bobbing their heads to the sound of synthetic beats. This was Paolo's favorite floor and while we were "dancing" he yelled, "Oh MY GOD! This is my favorite song!" Which confused me considering I thought we were still listening to the same 20 minute long song. The third floor is disco themed with a big light-up disco dance floor, and the fourth floor is the chill floor with girls dancing on stage behind a waterfall (?). The fifth floor has no music and when I went into the room it was full of 50 year-old men smoking cigars in a circle. They smiled and said some Czech-y sounding things and so I ran away.
It was fun. But I'll never go back. Clubs are really creepy and kind of sad, especially when you see really old men trying to mouth the words to a techno song and then high five their really old gross friends when they see a pretty 18 year-old girl on the dance floor. Gross.

School is still amazing. Our next film project will be shot this coming weekend. We are given really random scripts and we have to adapt them and make it interesting. I have an idea for my script that involves a drug bust. We'll see how it goes over with my writing teacher. I think screen writing is my thing. I love writing stories.

Prague is beautiful and amazing and awesome but I am already planning trips to visit friends and go other places. In two weeks I will go to Berlin with Paolo and some other friends for the film festival. In a month I might go to Holland with my friend Rogier to visit, in April I will go to Amsterdam for Laura's birthday, and then Scotland for spring break. And then Paolo wants me to visit him in Croatia this summer where his town is a 2 hour boat ride to Venice, Italy....
Jealous?

  1. The Berlin film festival? Amsterdam? Edinburgh? Try not to fall in love. Just try... And deliver on the czech-y talk! Reminds me of my time in '77 on the Moscow subway, trapped, a foreigner in an Eastern European counry. Ah - Grand and profound lessons on international diplomacy and friendships. Give up the seat, but deflect the onslaught of the elders. They're honored, and entitled, and will remind you! US should have the social programs of eastern Europe, politicians take note.
